What is Literary Studies?
Email Home
Literary Studies is a double-period block of Reading and English curriculum. Every 9th grader at Chicago Academy High School takes this course in order to prepare them for the level of reading and writing they will do in high school.
This quarter students will be reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and poetry from around the world. Students will be learning how to annotate, look for main idea and analyze symbolism.
Students will also be getting more practice with writing, both creatively and persuasively.
In addition to these new skills, students will be learning to master grammar skills through our ECRS lessons (pronounced E-kress); ECRS stands for English College Readiness Standards, as all lessons align with the ACT's learning standards.
This year, we're practicing standards-based assessment, and therefore everything students turn in can be redone in order to prove higher mastery.
